Our Favorite Knitting Supplies for 2018

All those who knit and crochet know this to be true: It’s not always about the finished product. There is so much joy to be found in the journey! When you are knitting your way to your next completed shawl, scarf, hat, or other gorgeous project, you may want to invest in some new knitting supplies to make all your knitting and purling just that much more fun. This week, we’ve picked out a few of our newest knitting supplies, as well as some old favorites, to share with you. Let’s check it out!

Brand New Accessory: Storage Bag

Fall means back-to-school, back-to-campus, and, for some, back to knitting! As the months get cooler and busier, it can be a challenge to get back into old routines and develop new ones at the same time. Make your life a little bit easier with Darn Good Yarn’s Knitting and Crochet Yarn Storage Bag. You may already have a tote or purse for yarn storage on-the-go, but this bag takes it to an entirely new level! If knitting supplies got grades, this one would receive an A+.

First up, the exterior is made of durable canvas that will protect your fibers, and it comes in three beautiful colors. You can show your Darn Good Yarn pride with our logo on the front pocket. Oh, yeah, did we mention the amazing number of pockets this bag has?! The front zipper pocket includes a special area for hooks, while pockets on the side and bag make room for your needles, phone, wallet, snack…and so much more.  An adjustable strap makes it possible to comfortably carry this bag with you all day long.

Ready for the best part? The top of the bag has a small zippered pocket, as well as a large zippered compartment for storing the bulk of your yarn and knitting supplies. When you open it up, you will see a flap with holes for stringing yarn through, keeping your yarn easily accessible, untangled, and ready to be switched out between colors. We are in love with this bag. Plus, for a limited time, the purchase of this bag also earns you a free month of Yarn of the Month Club membership! Knitting supplies, a storage bag, and the yarn of the month? Does it get any better than this?

Timeless Classic: Handmade Wooden Yarn Bowl

Wooden yarn ball with multicolored yarn ball sitting on a white background

Here’s one knitting accessory that we never thought we needed…and now can’t live without! How many times a day do you go back to untangle your yarn, find your yarn in a pile, or get frustrated because your yarn gets tangled while you’re knitting? This problem will instantly vanish when you try out a yarn bowl.

At first glance, it looks like a distinctive serving bowl or art piece, but this bowl is extremely functional for knitters. Just pop your yarn inside the bowl, safe and sound, and thread it through the swirly shape on the bowl’s side. Set the bowl on a table, couch, or floor (depending on where you like to sit when you knit!) and work your project. When you work with handmade or other specialty yarn, the bowl helps protect it from rolling around, collecting dust, unraveling, or getting tangled.

Here at Darn Good Yarn, we have several different types of yarn bowls—enough to suit all sorts of personalities and styles. But our Handmade Wooden Yarn Bowl is one of our favorite knitting accessories of all time. Made from Sheesham wood, it has a heavy, distinctive feel. These handcrafted bowls are made by artisans in our Co-ops in India, so each one is not only uniquely beautiful, but helpful, as these bowls provide safe and sustainable work to over 50 people.

Must Have: Ombre Wooden Knitting Needle Packs

Ombre wooden knitting needles on a wooden surface

When it comes to knitting supplies, the one thing you can never have too many of? Knitting needles! We probably have hundreds of pairs between all the team members at Darn Good Yarn. In 2018, our go-to has been these ombre needles - fashionable, fun, and functional, all at once.

Have you ever worked with wooden needles? If not, now is the time to try. Unlike metal or plastic needles, which tend to slip and slide, these provide a firmer feel while you work on projects. Additionally, they are simply gorgeous! Whether they are peeking out of a knitting bag, sitting in a yarn bowl, or otherwise being displayed alongside your other knitting supplies, these needles strike a smart look. When you add these to your knitting supply arsenal, get ready for questions and compliments galore. At least the ends of the needles can do some talking for you, as they sport our Darn Good Yarn logo. (Psst: do you crochet? We also have ombre wooden crochet hooks for all your crochet needs!)

Whether you use it as edging on a scarf or work an entire project with this yarn, you won’t be able to wipe the grin off your face as you knit.

Of course, if you like to try out new yarns on a regular basis, you are probably the perfect match for our Darn Good Yarn of the Month Club.
