Sustainable Crafting and Fashion | August 2022

Written by Kate Curry

I thought the heat was supposed to be over! Thankfully, I'm surrounded by a bunch of cool clothes that I can change into at any time! Thank the crafting gods for that!

I also want to thank our amazing community! Last month, our incredible global community came together to save 11,069 pounds of textiles, fiber, paper, plastic, and wood!

To put all of that saved recycled material into perspective, here are some examples that weigh 11,069 pounds!
  • 16 California sea lions
  • 2 whole great white sharks
  • 2,459 average textbooks
  • 36,896 funko pops
  • 316 single person kayaks

Totals for 2022

  • No. of trees planted: 5,278
  • Pounds of waste material saved:  84,602.03

Trees.Org x Darn Good Yarn

Every purchase from our Be Darn Good Collection, gives back to the global community. For each purchase from this collection, a tree is planted by our friends over at trees.org! For 2022 we hope to plant 30,000 trees this year all around the world to help our global siblings. With each tree planted there is hope for the future -more food, more farms, more wildlife, and more jobs!

Thanks to our community, last month we were able to plant 588 trees!! One step closer to our 2022 goal!

August's Most Popular Yarn

When I was truffle piggin' through last month's report, I was excited to see what the most popular yarn would be. Would it be a fan favorite like our Sparkle Worsted Weight Silk Yarn in Classic Blue! or a new product, like our 8 Chakras Energy Bundles.

Much to my surprise, our most popular yarn for August was: Mystery Skein of Yarn!

In front of a blossoming pink cherry tree, a hand holds up three multicolored cakes of handmade sari silk yarn.

Our mystery skein of yarn is just that - a total mystery! For a discounted price, you will receive a skein of our premium handmade yarn. This could be any weight or colorway you've seen on our site. Thanks to everyone who yearned for a little mystery, 30 pounds of reclaimed fiber has been saved!

Lookin’ Good & Doin’ Good!

A new piece of fabric is on the scene and ya’ll have been loving it! Our brand new peacock maxi dresses are fluttery, free, and made of unique and recycled sari materials. Our community loved them so much that our goddess size sold out in a matter of weeks! Thanks to everyone who purchased one of these dresses, 156 pounds of recycled fabric now has new life!

Yarn Of The Month® Club

An upclose look at our rising phoenix worsted weight sparkle yarn, which is a gorgeous fiery mix of red and orange.

In August, our fabulous Yarn of the Month community helped us save 353  pounds of fiber thanks to their subscription! With each person that subscribes, we are able to protect the employment of our incredible artisans that you can meet HERE!!. For every 1,000 subscribers, our club can support one artisan for an entire year!

Skirt Of The Month® Club

The skirt of the month club is the new hottest club to be in! With a wave of new members, we have been able to save 6,436 pounds of reclaimed and recycled sari fabric thanks to the club alone! If we keep growing, we will be able to hire more artisans in no time!
