Spike: A Spike is the loop picked up to create the star stitch. To pick up a loop, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a loop.

Foundation
Ch 24 or any even number of sts to measure 6” and add 4 more chains for the foundation.

Row 1: Pick up 1 loop in the 2nd ch from the hook and leave it on the hook, pick up a loop in each of the next 4 ch sts leaving loops on hook (6 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 6 loops on your hook, ch1 (eye of the star). First star st made.

Note: For the rest of the star sts, the first 3 loops picked up are from the previous star stitch. Only 2 unworked sts are used to make one star stitch.

*pick up a loop in the ch1 sp, pick up a loop in the side of the last spike, pick up a loop inserting hook in the same ch st as the last spike st, pick up a loop in each of the next 2 ch sts (6 loops and hook), yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch1 (2nd star st made). Repeat from * across.

Row 2: ch3, turn, pick up a loop in the 2nd & 3rd ch from the hook, pick up a loop in the ch1 sp (eye of the star), pick up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, yo, pull through all 6 loops on your hook, ch1. *pick up a loop in the ch1 sp (eye), pick up a loop in the side of the last spike, pick up a loop inserting hook in the same st as the last spike st, pick up a loop in each of the next 2 sts (6 loops and hook), yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch1. Repeat from * across.

Please note that the last 2 sts includes the turning ch that may not be as visible.

Repeat Row 2 for a total of 9 rows. Fasten off & block to 6x6 square.
