Learn to make these unique knotted napkin rings with gorgeous silk fat quarters. They are great scrap busters, and these would be great hostess gifts!
When gathering for holiday meals, like Thanksgiving, it’s always nice to have special handmade details. These knotted napkin rings are beautiful, simple, and easy to make. They use a small piece of fabric, but the knot gives them a real wow factor.
Supplies
- Silk Fat Quarters
- Sewing Machine & Thread
- Fabric Scissors
- Rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler (optional)
- Iron for pressing
- Lightweight fusible interfacing
Instructions
- Cut your silk into 4 inch by 8 inch pieces.
- Interface each piece with lightweight fusible interfacing.
- Sew the short ends of two rectangles together with a ½ inch seam allowance. Press the seam open.
- Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise with right sides together. Pin it in place.
- Sew from the folded point then out to the raw edges and then back to the other folded point creating a crescent-like shape. Leave a 2 inch hole.
- Trim the seam allowances and points.
- Turn the piece right side out and poke out the corners.
- Press the piece flat. Topstitch the hole closed.
- Use an item about 2 inches in diameter to wrap the piece around and tie the piece into a circle with a big square knot.
- Insert the cloth or paper napkin into the napkin ring.
