Yarn: The Must See Movie - Darn Good Yarn

Yarn: The Must See Movie

Multiple balls of multicolored yarn and several strands of beads in different colors and sizes all arranged around a wooden cornucopia sitting on a wooden surface

This time of year tends to be about lots of new movies and this year is no exception! Can I be really honest with you? I am always amazed with all the film releases because I never have time to go the movies with everything else going on.

HOWEVER, I would love to see the documentary movie called Yarn. I love the premise of this film and how yarn connects us all. I hear stories of this every day from our Darn Good Yarn family and certainly, our company model is about creating sustainable, year round work, finding unique global connections, and making our Earth a cleaner place by using many reclaimed fibers. A perfect fit!

So What's the Movie, Yarn, About?

Traditional crafts of crochet and knitting have become one of the hottest movements in modern art. The film crew follows International artists and knitters as they bring yarn to the streets and into our lives in new ways. Starting in Iceland, this quirky and thought-provoking film takes us on a colorful and global journey as we discover how yarn connects us all.

This documentary film travels to: Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Hawaii, Cuba, USA,  and Canada exploring the endless possibilities of yarn in the world. See why I need to see this film and why it so connects with our Darn Good Yarn community?

And That's A Cut

The film is directed by Una Lorenzen with co-directors Thordur Johsson & Heather Millard. A big fan of Barbara Kinsolver, I was pleased to learn the original prose, "Where It Begins", was written and performed by her! The movie also features four global female artists who knit and crochet!

This is a Compass Films production, in co-production with 2M Film Studio, Poland. Supported by the Icelandic Films Centre, Creative Europe MEDIA Development Funding, Creative Europe MEDIA TV funding, RÚV, RTV, TG4, TVP and SVT.
