Build Your Own Yarn Gift Basket

Written by Kate Curry

Are you looking to make a unique yarn gift basket for the special crafter in your life? Let us help you gather together some pieces to create an amazing fiber art gift basket that any crafter would lose their minds over!

Getting Started

Before you start picking out what goes in the basket, you need to pick the basket! The size and shape of your basket can change the amount of yarn and notions you’ll need to make sure your basket looks full and lush!

You’ll want to choose a sturdy basket that won’t become misshapen by the weight of the contents. I’d suggest a basket with a nice wide bottom and tall sides, it will really allow you to space out the contents in a gorgeous way.

Along with your basket, you’ll need a few other odds and ends that will really take your gift bag game to the next level. Items like paper grass to raise up the items inside the basket, ribbons to decorate the basket handles, and colored or clear cellophane to wrap up the finished basket.

Arranging Your Basket

The best looking baskets are organized with the larger and taller items in the back, and the smaller, lighter items in the front. This creates a nice visual that showcases the individual items in the basket instead of making it look like everything was just shoved in there.

For this basket, I’m using a 14” long, 10” wide, and 5” deep that I filled the base with recycled sari fabric that can be recycled and crafted with! With only a few items, I was able to make multiple different gorgeous gift baskets.

Choosing Your Yarns & Notions

Remember- make sure you choose enough products to fill your basket. Nothing is worse than a basket that looks like it’s missing something. I’ve sorted out your options for a basket based by size, so you can plan your basket with an arrangement in mind. Is there a theme you want to follow or even a color pallet? The choices are endless!
