Meet Nicole

I started Darn Good Yarn® when I discovered recycled silk yarn. I was instantly transfixed. At the time, I was a new knitter. I loved how it hid my mistakes and gave my project this organic look that was full of color. It wasn’t long before I discovered that the people who made this yarn desperately needed a way to make a stable and safe living.

Since 2008, Darn Good Yarn® has saved over 2 million pounds of material waste and turned it back into our crafting and clothing products; we have served as a bridge between our 600+ artisans around the globe and our customers; and we’ve worked hard with our supplier network to create safe and sustainable jobs that are truly Darn Good™.

A present for myself, because I deserve it

I originally started out my subscription as every other month, and with color suggestions for the team selecting the skirts. That changed after the first delivery. My first skirt was February, and I forget which goddess it would have been inspired by according to the enclosed card, but it would have been more fun with the seasonal option, rather than to ask for specific colors. I immediately removed that, but dithered too long about changing the frequency, and missed the next delivery.

All of the skirts have been lovely – every one! – and the reversible design gives so many options for wearing. The shimmering colors and swirling silky fabric are a pleasure to wear, too. I'm pretty sure I'm threading the ties wrong, though, but I'll figure it out. I have also learned that the tea length is almost "maxi" on me (I am pocket size), so I'm afraid maxi length will drag the floor. I wish there was a way to toggle the length choices, to further customize the seasonal option, although I think I understand why it's done this way.

I love that these are made from recycled saris, reclaimed fabric that might otherwise go to a landfill. Not only that, but Darn Good Yarn supports the people who make them – no sweatshops!

Maybe you're worth it, too. Maybe you have a friend who needs reminding that they're worth it. Give yourself or (and!) a friend a subscription of something beautiful, and support sustainable fashion in the best possible way.
