Welcome back to another edition of Color Swatches For The Soul, where we are taking a closer look at the symbolism of shades, and how to set the mood for your craft projects, fashion, and lifestyle with color psychology! Today we’re looking at Dark Orange.
The Orange Family
The color orange represents self confidence and the immune system, as it is the color of the resilient vitamin c! As a mix of the ambitious, passionate red and the joyful, sunny yellow, orange symbolizes standing up for your happiness and taking actions to lead you toward it, as well as focusing on the active parts of your life that bring you joy! Orange focuses on the self primarily, because we cannot make others happy. For this reason, in excess it can become egotistical or obnoxious.
How Dark Orange Sets The Mood
Dark Orange is a delicate and strong color, almost tipping over into brown, but still keeping that air of nutmeg and spice warmth! This hue is sensory, introspective, and homey. It symbolizes breathing deeply, enjoying life, and reflecting on the past, as the active joy of orange and the stability of brown come together.
How To Use Dark Orange In Your Craft Projects
Dark Orange is the perfect color to use for all things warm, affectionate, and homey! This is especially true for the beginning and end of the day- where there is plenty of time to reflect and be grateful. Use Dark Orange as a base color for your bedding items, or station it around your morning ritual items with granny squares and doilies!
When planning homemade gifts, this color is wonderful for expressing gratitude over long term friendships! For new friends and acquaintances, or even new in-laws, this color says ‘I’m grateful for our future history.’
Color Palettes For Dark Orange
Dark Orange works well with creams and browns, and can be absolutely stunning with an accent of boysenberry blue-purple. For the fall season, it is naturally aligned with Thanksgiving and Halloween palettes, however if you’d like to have a bit more Dark Orange year round, it can be paired with light blues for a crisp and airy farmhouse feel!
If you can feel it, there’s a color for it!
