Welcome back to another edition of Color Swatches For The Soul, where we are taking a closer look at the symbolism of shades, and how to set the mood for your craft projects, fashion, and lifestyle with color psychology! Today we’re looking at Dark Indigo.
The Purple Family
In color psychology, and in the chakra system, purples represent spirituality and intuition. As one of the darker hues in the spectrum, purple often represents the night sky, or venturing into the greater unknown. Purple is a cosmic color, and is composed of a mixture between active reds or pinks, and observational blues.
Together, this secondary color loves to observe its own actions, and actively seek out new observations. It is this combination of internal and external movement that gives purple its royal and spiritual footing.
How Dark Indigo Sets The Mood
Dark Indigo is an intellectual form of mysticism, leaning toward the thoughtful blue and the blackness of the unknown. This color is very deeply inquisitive, leaning in and observing with an open mind, while pushing forward to understand more deeply with the presence of red.
How To Use Dark Indigo In Your Craft Projects
Dark Indigo works well as a base color and in large patterns, but may be too much to the eye when used in thin, delicate designs. This color is very busy by nature, and prefers to have plenty of room to expand!
Handmade gifts that use Dark Indigo encourage learning at a deep level, as well as a bit of innovation and interaction. However, this color has a very independent nature, and is best gifted to people who have already chosen this mood for themselves!
Color Palettes For Dark Indigo
Dark Indigo can be paired with pastels for a dynamic, festive feel. It blends well with pinks, teals and lively greens, as well as glowing oranges and fiery reds. It will clash loudly with yellow, but can do it in a likable, energized way. Dark Indigo will feel very cold with silver, and royal with gold!
Use Dark Indigo when you’re ready to dive into a new level of complexity.
If you can feel it, there’s a color for it!
