BO

Cut a piece of yarn ~ 2 yds long, thread your tapestry needle onto it, and tie the loose ends in a knot. With RST, stitch together the short ends.

Place the hair tie around the knit scrunchie - this will cinch the scrunchie (that’s what gives it the scrunch effect)! Bring the long ends together, encompassing the hair tie, and stitch all the way around the outside.

Finishing Off

Weave in the ends and trim the excess yarn off. Enjoy your new scrunchie

Materials:

Abbreviations:

  • Ch: Chain
  • SLST: Slip Stitch
  • ST(S): Stitch(es)
  • DC: Double Crochet
  • FO: Fasten Off

Pattern Notes:

  • Gauge: Not Critical

The Pattern

Tie a double knot around the hair tie with a ~2 inch tail, with the tail going towards the left. Grab the yarn with your hook from the underside of the hair tie and pull up a loop, CH 2, DC around the hair tie encompassing the tail of the yarn.

Once you get close to the end of the tail, push the stitches back towards the double knot. Keep repeating this step until you reach the end of the tail, trim the tail if you need to.

Continue on past the tail, DC’ing around and then pushing stitches back. You want to have as many DC sts on the hair tie as possible!

Once you get around to the double knot again, SLST with the first DC and FO.

Finishing Off

Weave in ends and trim excess yarn off. Enjoy your new Scrunchie!
