Tier + Tassel Cowl: Knit Pattern

Skill Level: Intermediate

Materials:

  • 1 Skein of Sport Weight Silk Yarn
  • US 5 (3.75 mm) Straight Knitting Needles
  • Tapestry Needle and Scissors
  • Embroidery Floss (optional)

Abbreviations:

  • P: Purl
  • K: Knit
  • ST/S: Stitch/es
  • S: Slip

Pattern Notes

  • Finished Dimensions: Approximately 26” W x 5” L
  • Work stitches loosely
  • When working a decrease K or P 1 ST as needed to maintain the pattern (at beginning or end of pattern set)

The Pattern

Cast On 190 Sts

  • Foundation Row: Purl entire row loosely
  • Row 1: (Right Side) S1. *K through back of the second ST on the left needle. Then K through the front of the first stitch on the left needle. Drop both STS simultaneously.* Repeat between *'s until end of row.
  • Row 2: (Wrong Side) S1. *P the second ST on the left Needle. Then P the first stitch on the left needle. Drop both stitches simultaneously.* Repeat between *'s until end of row.

Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until piece measures 4.5 inches, ending after Row 2

  • Decrease Row 1: Bind off 18 STS. Work Row 1 of the pattern until the end of the row.
  • Decrease Row 2: Bind off 18 STS purlwise. Work Row 2 of the pattern until the end of the row.

Repeat decrease Rows 1 & 2 until 10 STS remain

Bind Off

Weave in ends. Sew short sides together. If desired, make and add tassels to the corners. Enjoy! 

 

Tier + Tassel Cowl: Crochet Pattern

Skill Level: Easy

Materials: 

  • 1 Skein of Sport Weight Silk Yarn
  • US D/3 (3 mm) Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle and Scissors
  • Embroidery Floss (optional)

    Abbreviations:

    • Ch: Chain x
    • St(s): Stitches
    • YO: Yarn Over
    • Sk: Skip

    Pattern Notes:

    • Finished Dimensions: Approximately 27" x 5"
    • Bean Stitch: Insert hook into the next stitch. YO and pull loop through. YO and insert hook into the same stitch. YO and pull a loop through. There should be 4 loops on your hook. YO and pull through all 4 loops. CH 1.

      The Pattern

      Ch 149 Sts. Turn. Ch 2.

      • Row 1-16: Insert hook into 3rd ST from hook. *Bean Stitch. SK 1.* Repeat between *'s across row. On the final Bean ST of the row, there will not be a ST to SK. Instead, CH one more (2 CH's in a row). Turn.

      To Work Decreases:

      Start each row by inserting hook into 3rd ST from hook. *Bean Stitch. SK 1.* Repeat between *'s for number of repetitions listed per row. Bean stitch once more and CH 1. Turn.

      • Row 17: Repeat Between *'s 60 times.
      • Row 18: Repeat Between *'s 46 times.
      • Row 19: Repeat Between *'s 37 times.
      • Row 20: Repeat Between *'s 28 times.
      • Row 21: Repeat Between *'s 21 times.
      • Row 22: Repeat Between *'s 14 times.
      • Row 23: Repeat Between *'s 11 times.
      • Row 24: Repeat Between *'s 8 times.
      • Row 25: Repeat Between *'s 6 times.
      • Row 26: Repeat Between *'s 4 times.

      Fasten Off and weave in ends. Sew short sides together to create the cowl. If desired, create tassels and attach to corners of your cowl. Enjoy!
