DGY Yarn Name: Unicorn Sparkles
Title: Director of Operations
Amanda was the first employee at Darn Good Yarn and has seen and managed the exponential growth over the past 4 years. When Amanda isn’t running (literally running) around the warehouse, coordinating imports, and managing the laundry list of products Darn Good yarn has to offer, she loves spending time with her friends at one of the local CrossFit gyms. This definitely does not hurt considering she’s constantly lifting heavy yarn bales! While she loves fitness, she also loves fit-niss pizza in her mouth after a Friday night lifting session, and pairing it with a yummy bottle of wine. One of Amanda’s goals is to visit a new country every year, until she’s seen the whole world.
Amanda earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from SUNY Plattsburgh, where she was also a member of the Cross Country and Track Teams.
1. What about the mission of Darn Good Yarn hits home for you and why?
Every day, I’m absolutely amazed at how many hands touch every single Darn Good Yarn product. From the artisans in our co-ops in India and Nepal, to Nepal to our warehouse facility in our local ARC, every single product is created, and hand packed with love. The value in creating handmade goods is one that has been overlooked in this millennium, but I think consumers are starting to become more socially conscious in their purchasing and want unique goods that were not made from a machine cookie-cutter template.
2. What is your favorite DGY product and why?
My favorite DGY product is our Wine Time Candle – even though I am semi-allergic to candles, it smells SO amazing. We all love wine here, and we developed this candle with another local company (Weird Beard Candle Co.). It was really fun to figure out what scents went well together, and how to create a final product that we could share with customers, as if we were all having a wine night together!
