So, I just wanted to share a way to fix or reinforce your yarn swift! The one thing I wanted to note that I didn't in the video below is that when you attach the zip ties, don't make them too tight, you want them to be the same circumference of the loop of twine that was in its place. That will allow for flexibility and movement of those parts for different sized skeins.

Hey everyone it's me Nicole over at DarnGoodYarn.com and you might imagine that I might be a black belt in a swift. And if you don't know what a swift is, it's the thing if you go to a yarn shop if you have a skein of yarn you like open it up and you put it on and then you use a ball winder and you turn it. It's this wooden thing, the swift is the wooden thing that spins and holds the skein of yarn while you ball it. Um, I use it quite frequently but even before I got Darn Good Yarn I noticed that they put them together. I have a wood swift. You can get them like in metal and I know they have like plastic and some of them as well but um the wooden one I have, and it seems to just be like the way 99% of them are made, where they hinge together at the tops and bottoms- they use twine, the manufacturers do. And um you know that's great for like all of six months. In my world it’s like three months. And then the twine just pops off and then the swift comes apart and then it's like a mess. But, I want you to show you a trick that I use that hopefully you could adapt too! I use tiny zip ties, and that has been the easiest most awesome thing to use to put the swift back together again. And even if you have one now, I would suggest just cutting off the twine that connects the tops and bottoms and popping these puppies on. And um, I never really like had zip ties or used zip ties until I got married. And then I got married and there's like all this boy stuff in the house. So yeah, we get like the jumbo size zip ties. And that's actually how I found out about these mini ones and they're really handy that once you get addicted zip ties you’re like I can zip tie so many things but yeah! So I just wanted to share that with you and you know for any hand-spun yarn, you should be using the swift and yarn winder. And you do know that if I have something that's in skein and you would like it wound into a ball, I do it for free! You just have to ask. And that's it, everyone. I hope you have a good day and I'll talk to you later!
