Please note this fantastic return policy is for the yarn purchased on my site darngoodyarn.com, not ebay (Ebay is a 14 days in original condition–sorry it’s more strict, their fees make it very restrictive, feel free to order through this site and get a better deal anyway!).

Q: What’s your return policy?
A: Did you ever hear that commercial that talks about happy cheese comes from happy cows? Well, happy crafts come from happy Darn Good Yarn-ers. I (Nicole, the owner of Darn Good Yarn) know that shopping online can suck sometimes. When it comes to yarn, it’s a tactile experience… mmm to run your fingers over the yarn. So, shopping for these jewels online takes a wind out of the sales a little (but luckily I charge a lot less than your LYS, you’re still supporting one very small business and you can shop in your PJ’s at my store).

But, this is why Darn Good Yarn is so, well, Darn Good. Try it, Feel it, Love it, Hate it, Use it, Stare at it. If you’re not pleased with it (even if you’ve started crafting with it), send it all back in 30 and I’ll refund you your purchase price (minus shipping). If you’ve started using it and you’re not delighted, just stop, take it off the needles, put it in the box and send it back to me. You have 30 days from placing the order, International orders have 40 days from placing the order. Prior to returning any yarn, please contact us at info@darngoodyarn.com with the reason and what exactly you’re returning.

So you might remember I asked Chriss (our great crocheter) what inspires her: you read about it by clicking here.

But I had to ask our great knitter Faith the same thing. Read what she has to say!

Click here for Faith's Slipper Pattern

I’ve been knitting since I was in my early teens. I made myself sweaters and ponchos and the like. I earned some of my money for university knitting sweaters. I hadn’t been knitting much lately except out of necessity (I go through a lot of mittens), but I found Darn Good Yarn by accident this summer. I was entranced by the yarn and intrigued by the 80 ways to save the earth tote bag. I ordered some of the yarn. When I decided to make the tote smaller than the pattern called for, I had leftover yarn, so I decided to make mittens. Silk is supposed to be the warmest thing to wear in the winter. They turned out well, so I figured I’d try socks, something I hadn’t knit since I was about 14. This meant ordering more yarn. I was working on them while on vacation, and my daughter and I wandered into a fancy yarn shop in Charlottetown. She fell in love with thrummed mittens, so I figured out how to make those. Her sister needed a pair after seeing them, naturally. By this time I was totally in love with the silk. Nicole was looking for designers, and every time I looked at the silk I came up with another idea for how to use it. We started collaborating, and there you are.

I also design cross-stitch and blackwork patterns and write for various publications, including a review zine.

Click Here Tibet Sari Silk Poncho Knit Pattern By Faith!

This worsted weight yarn is handspun in women’s co-ops in Nepal and made from recycled silk. So, not only are you getting an incredibly unique yarn, you’re creating jobs for others.

We got some different colors in outside of the normal Gumball Recycled Silk Balls. Well you’re gonna score on this deal! This yarn pack comes with 4 slightly mismatched Gumball Recycled Silk 100 g balls. And you can choose the pack you want…but HURRY! We only have one pack of each color pack shown in the pictures.

Each ball is about 100g and contains approximately 90 yards of yarn. With rich hues and great sheen this will make your projects shine!!!

We suggest size US 8-10 (5-6mm, UK/Canada 6-4). Depending on your knitting your gauge will be about 3-4 stitches per inch (13-15 stitches per 10 cm).

Exclusive to Darn Good Yarn: Remember, when you order this yarn with DGY, you’re going to get this great yarn in balls not cumbersome skeins. So, when you get your package, you can get crafting right away and not pay extra for that little luxury!

I’ve seen similar yarn sell on the internet for $14 per 100g and it’s still in skeins…what a rip off!

Nicole: So here goes the question, what inspires you to create what you do?

Chriss: Well, that is a complicated question, sometimes I see an item on a person, such as a hat or a belt, and I haven’t seen it done in crochet, before. So I try it, and sometimes it works out horribly and sometimes I come up with a really awesome item or pattern.

My daughter, Billie, is a huge inspiration. She is such a huge help when it comes to being able to wear things in different ways. Sometimes, we talk about an idea that didn’t work out, and she can help me modify the idea. Not to mention, she is my resident model.

Crochet had this bad rap for a long time as being, doilies, mile-a-minute afghans, bulky vests, and slippers. Not to say those things don’t have there place in crochet, its just crochet is so much more. A lot of people hear crochet and are immediately put off, then I show them and they are so shocked! So, I get inspiration thru breaking boundries or changing the way people think about crochet.

I have said this one before, knitters/knitting inspire(s) me. Why? There has been a major explosion of crochet patterns in the past 7-8 years, but before that it was hard to find cutting edge/ or even really trendy crochet patterns. There are so many really great knitting patterns, so sometimes I look to whats happening in the world of knitting.

The origin of yarn can be inspiring. I look at the texture, drape, and color of the yarn. We’ll use DGY Premium Recycled Sari Silk for an example: Well, first off its silk, and silk has wonderful drape. Color? Well, that one speaks for it self. Texture, I love to work with Sari Silk in fairly tight stitches, that way it stays put and doesn’t fray too much. Also I think that is one of the best ways to display the yarn.

Premium Recycled Silk Yarn

And lastly nature inspires me, sometimes its listening to the rain, an awesome sunset, being in my veggie garden, playing with my kids, or like many others the season inspires me.
You say, “why?” And I say, “why not?”

Here you can work on a true one skein wonder-- The Recycled Silk Hat and best yet it's a free knitting pattern for you to enjoy!

Well, I’m sorry for the delay in getting this posted to everyone. I went on a vacation to Maine and NJ. I didn’t bring the ol laptop and I always forget how tough it is to do anything on someone else’s computer:)

PURCHASE YOUR KIT NOW, CLICK HERE!

So, here’s the pattern, some pictures and a quick video.

Also, don’t forget to wear big ol earrings with it.

OK, so here is the pattern..FINALLY!!! It’s easy peasy!
Materials: 1 Low Cost Kit which can be obtained here:Click Here!

A note about the kit… ” You’re going to get not only our premium recycled silk yarn but you’re also going to get some other great supplies to send you well on your way to making this easy peasy hat!

So, aside from our Premium Recycled Silk Yarn you’ll receive: 1 pair of bamboo size 11 circular needles and a needle for finishing all wrapped in funky purple tissue paper!

An easy project, a stellar price (even if you decide to make something else!)” ($13.99)

Cast on 60 sts (If you have a smaller head CO 56)
Row 1: K2, P2, K2 across line, ending with P2.
Row 2 -- 6: Repeat Row 1.
Row 7: Knit across
Row 8: Purl across
Repeat these 2 rows (which is stockinette stitch) until hat is 8.75 or so (your preference) from start, ending with a purl row.

Then on the next knit row K2tog, K continue this pattern until the end of the row

Then purl across

Now when you get into the realm of having around 3rd “round” of decreasing there is a little “fudging” that’s going to happen but because the hat is slouchy you can’t tell. I don’t know if I wasn’t paying attention (which is a very good possibility) So don’t curse me and don’t fret!!! OK so on your knit rows, k2tog then knit 1 at the end of the row you might end up with 3 stitches (I did), just knit those. Just continue decreasing for a few more rows purling straight across the purl rows until you have 10 sts left

Take a big needle and pull the thread through the 10 stitches. Pull the thread so you close the top. Handsew the sides together, using the thread from top to bottom. Make sure you take your time!

I know I sometimes (very stupidly) rush the sewing and it looks like..well.. $%#$. You get a big ol clump of yarn..not pretty…so be sure to catch each stitch and finish it up nicely:)

Now throw on some big earrings and enjoy your creation!!!
