Hi there, what a beautiful pattern you’ve created! Just a question about the material – we don’t get recycled sari yarn here in Australia; could you suggest an alternative? Bulky weight or super bulky? Any guidance is much appreciated!

don’t you mean to cast on 52 not 54 sts.
in row 1, 13×4 =52 and in row 3. 12×4 = 48 plus your
k2 at the beginning and end of that round

@Maureen: I tried it in the round – it works; just adjust your sts so you are finishing a cable at the end of a needle (or you’ll have sloppy cables). I used bulky yarn actually with a size 8 needle and it’s stunning (Michaels’ brand loops & threads) This is a great & simple pattern that looks luxurious – a fantastik gift paired with mitts & hat:)) I just love it!

Maureen, the pattern is made so that the cowl is knitted from bottom to top (or vice versa), hence the circular needles – the kntitting is done in a circle and there is no need to make any seams, just weave 2 loose ends – beginning and end.
You can knit it sideways (left to right) on double-pointed needles. Just cast on as many stitches as you want to achieve the desired width adn knit it as loong as you want and then graft the cast-on row and the last row together. Voila!

can this cowl be knitted on double-pointed needles? I become severely dyslexic when I see circular needles. Maybe I should just rip up all my fabric and knit things out of it?
