Q: Why do International Customers have to pay more?
A: We're based out of the USA and while we get great rates domestically and can pass those savings to our customers here our international rates are slightly higher. Understanding you want the best deal, we ship all of our international shipments via "International First Class Mail" through our post office. It usually takes 1-2 weeks. Any faster and the cost is exorbitant. (If you need it faster please see the next question)
Q: I'm in a super rush and need this yarn...like yesterday! Help?!
A: Give us a call and be sure you speak with us directly and we'll help you make something happen. (The phone number is 609-276-7489...look to speak with Nicole, the director of business operations)
Q: How long does it take to process my order?
A: We will normally pack and ship your order the next or same business day! And yes, we'll send you a tracking number via email.
Q: What makes your yarn so different?
A: We have the best quality and the best prices ....seriously. We shopped the competition and we've been directly importing for years (through our other business Around the Om). We know where to get the best products from. We don't want you disappointed...that makes for unhappy crafting.
So, we get the best, charge the least, end of story! Best of all, because we support fair trade and the local artisans of Nepal you will too when you order from Darn Good Yarn.
Q: What is your philosphy...on this yarn?
A: Good question. Aside from this yarn being 100% Child Labor Free. The purchase of this yarn concentrates on the promotion of Nepalese people to help secure their skills and lifestyles throughout the local region. With the creation of this yarn, Darn Good Yarn, works hard with our manufacturer to employ as many workers as possible from all different parts of the societal structure. In particular this yarn employees village women through which various benefits are extended such as health care and education for their children. Fair trade and social benefit....and really great yarn....Does it get any better? We didn't think so either.
Q: What's your return policy?
A: We'll accept returns for all products in their original condition (this means the yarn must be in it's original twisted skein) within 10 business days of receipt and will refund 100% of your original purchase cost. Returns must be authorized through our customer service department. Please note the nature of this yarn. Every single skein is totally different which is part of the charm. If you're looking for the same shade we suggest using a different yarn entirely. We've worked on projects which start out red, go to blue and end up in pink-- it's the whimsy and joy of the art! However, rest assured, unless you want all crazy colors we will try our very hardest to keep the hues the same so you have a variegated yet cohesive look to your project...another reason we're so Darn Good!
If you have a problem though we want you to be happy and will work with you to make things right.
Q: What types of payments do you accept?
A: Our shopping cart is powered by paypal so this means we take paypal and major credit cards! When you complete your order you will be sent to paypal's processing page. We trust paypal, their ability and technology to securely process your transaction. You can pay via paypal account, major credit card or e-check. Please take note on e-checks: they take 5-7 business days to clear and unfortunately we cannot ship your yarn until that clears. We leave payment process to paypal because they know what the heck they're doing and they know how to keep your sensitive information private.
Q: What happens with my personal information?
A: Since we call on paypal to process your sensitive financial information we only get your email and shipping address in the process. We will never sell or rent any personal information which is obtained from you by visiting and doing business with us. If we get some new yarn in we might send out a brief email to share that with you. If you prefer to not get an email like that please email us to request being taken off our email list.
Q: How much yarn do I get out of 1 100g skein?
A: Each skein is hand-spun which means yardage varies a little but our best average is 80-90 yards per skein/ball. For our 200g skeins you get 160-180 yards of yarn.
Q: What type of needles and gauge should I look at using?
A: We suggest size US 8-10 (5-6mm, UK/Canada 6-4). Depending on your knitting your gauge will be about 3-4 stitches per inch (13-15 stitches per 10 cm) for our recycled silk sari yarn.
Q: What are some of your knitting tips for DGY's Recycled Silk Sari Yarn?
A: Well we're glad you asked. As you use each skein (particularly more than 1 in 1 project) you will achieve a beautiful kaleidoscopic look. We prefer to mix this yarn with a solid yarn. It's fun to throw into the mix when felting certain projects too! Don't forget, if you'd like a loopy, lacey look, use larger needles.
When you're knitting: The strands should be kept twisted this will reduce breakage. Occasionally, we find the yarn can break. We simply tie it back together with a simple square knot and you can't even tell! We're sure there are more eloquent ways to deal with breakage but this is the easiest and most universal. However, once you have your project knitted up you shouldn't have any problems with breakage... it's the strength in numbers theory:)
With this yarn we like to make ponchos, hats, belts, shawls, handbags, tote bags, felted projects and yes, even rugs! There are some great web sites out there which provide AWESOME knitting and crocheting ideas and patterns for FREE...yes FREE . Here's our favorite link: http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/
