No, unless you get really bad quality... then it will probably stink... in that case you'd want to wash it. But if you buy your recycled silk from Darn Good Yarn you'll never have the "stink" problem and you can start crafting with it right away!

I've heard conflicting reports. Is it necessary to wash the sari silk yarn before knitting it up?

Thanks,

PM me on Ravelry (or E-mail me)and I can put you in touch with some great deals on wheels.
And you are welcome to blame me; I'm the chief enabler in our neck of the woods. I prefer to call it "support" though. It makes such a difference...
Glad you are going to take up meditation/spinning. They are practically synonymous in my mind.
Have fun!

Hi Again,
That was me at NAFD chatting about the amazing wonderful washability of silk sari yarns.
I'm glad you tried it, and isn't is "oooh, aaah" soft that way.
Funny & exciting news, I won! I was the lucky winner of the sari silk yarn from the drawing!
~Doing a little happy dance~
So I had to pop in to say "Thank you!" for my awesome prize.
I can't wait to pet it and knit it up! When I get a chance I'll send you a couple of my "go to" patterns for SS yarn.
Thank you again!
