Why not use circular needles? I never use straight needles when making hats; it makes so much more sense to me to use circular needles so you don't have to sew a seam. Just wondering why you would choose straight needles instead of circular.

I have made this hat several times. Different yarns. But, it always turns out great. Another thing I do, which has worked for me, is I start out with size 6 needles, for the ribbing, to make it snug on the head, then, I knit into the back and front of every stitch for one row, and knit it onto size 10s or 11s, to give it a more dramatic "pouf". I have also done garter stitch, which gives a different texture. It's still the best pattern I have found, and I thank you for it.

For those of us who have u yarn already, but want ensure have enuf, - does it take just 1 regular skein, or is more required?
For those of us with larger & smaller heads, what size is u head? That way we can figure the gauge & how many st to add/subtract in CO.
Thanks for the patt - looks darling!
